"The camera is an instrument that teaches people how to see without a camera."
- Dorothea Lange

How did all this begin?

You'll notice as you look through my gallery that there are rather a lot of photos under Trackside. This is not a coincidence. I have had a passion for motorsport for around 17 of my 25 years. Starting off venturing to Lakeside - you can see that in its current state as well - with the boys of the family, I developed a serious case of hero worship towards the likes of Dick Johnson, Peter Brock and Jim Richards in the Australian Touring Car Championship.

However, it wasn't until I headed for Europe in mid-2000 that I developed a love affair with photography. In the space of fifteen months, I took well over 2,000 photos. Thats film, too.

Returning home to Brisbane in 2001 I carried on shooting away, and in mid-2005 I made the switch to digital, and it's these photos that make up the bulk of what you see in the gallery. From time to time I'll add more from my film days so you can see my earlier work.

What can I do?

You name it, I can shoot it. There are so many photographers out there who specialise in one particular form, be it portrait, sport, still life, architecture and so on, but while my most targeted form may have come from behind the crash barriers, I enjoy all forms of this wonderful art.

Want to purchase a print?

In the future I'll have a full store for you to be able to purchase my prints. For now, should you wish to enquire about an image in the gallery, please e-mail me your requests.

Want me to shoot you?

As there are no portraits on here, you may think I've not done any of that work. On the contrary, I have done a number of people shoots. I will display some examples of my work in the near future.

Should you wish to utilise my services for an event, or if you'd like to work with me in a natural environment - personally I'm not a fan of posed studio shoots - contact me and we can work out arrangements.

Before you go making hasty travel plans, you should know that I now reside in Sydney, but regularly travel for work, to Queensland, Western Australia and even New Zealand. That said, I'm able to work anywhere subject to discussion of travel arrangements.

Seen me before?

I have had my wares shown in other media previously. Check out the Brad Jones Racing newsletter from July 2003. Further, I have been published in Queensland's Sunday Mail newspaper feature on the State through the eyes of its residents.

Why the name?

No, this relates not to an oversized ego on my part. This comes from my next-favourite sport, basketball. The photos in my basketball gallery are from Australia's NBL, but in a world sense my favourite team is the NBA's San Antonio Spurs. And one of my favourite Spurs goes by the name of Robert Horry, who has made a career out of hitting game-winning shots, earning the nickname 'Big Shot Rob'. The word 'shot' of course also relates to photography, hence I came up with Big Shot Dan.

Can't get enough of me?
